Biography
Tad, a heavy Seattle grunge band known for their '70s metal-inspired sound, stood out with their loud, aggressive music that lacked the accessibility of their peers. Led by 300-pound frontman Tad Doyle, the band's redneck image and satirical lyrics on white-trash culture added to their distinctiveness. Despite evolving their sound over the years, Tad's music remained consistently loud and heavy, eventually leading to their decline alongside the falling popularity of grunge.
Formed in 1988 by Tad Doyle and bassist Kurt Danielson, Tad quickly gained attention with their debut album "God's Balls" in 1989, produced by Jack Endino. Their subsequent releases, including the EP "Salt Lick" and album "8-Way Santa," showcased a mix of melody and aggression. Despite legal troubles and lineup changes, Tad's cult following grew, leading to a major-label deal with Giant and later Elektra subsidiary EastWest. However, internal label conflicts and lack of promotion resulted in the band's eventual disbandment in 1998, with members pursuing other musical ventures.
