Biography

San Francisco-based group Sweet Trip seamlessly merged dream pop, ambient, techno, and drum'n'bass into their futuristic indie pop and electronic sound. Their 2003 album Velocity : Design : Comfort showcased glitch-heavy experimentation, while 2009's You Will Never Know Why presented a more streamlined yet vibrant approach. The band, founded in the late 1990s by Roberto Burgos, Valerie Cooper, and Viet Le, gained online popularity in the late 2010s and released their fourth album, A Tiny House, In Secret Speeches, Polar Equals, in 2021, followed by the 2022 compilation Seen/Unseen.

Sweet Trip's journey began in 1997, opening for ambient jungle producer Junior Varsity KM before releasing their debut album Halica in 1998 under Darla Records. The band's lineup evolved over the years, culminating in the release of Velocity : Design : Comfort in 2003 and You Will Never Know Why in 2009. With a major cult following and a resurgence in the 2020s, Sweet Trip's innovative blend of electronic shoegaze continues to captivate listeners, as seen in the reissues and releases that have solidified their place in modern music history.
