Subway to Sally is a pioneering German folk metal band known for blending medieval metal with elements of prog, chamber improv, and Gothic grooves. Since their formation in 1990, they have incorporated traditional folk instruments like bagpipes and hurdy-gurdy into their sound, alongside guitars and drums. Over the years, they have released a series of albums, signing with labels like BMG Ariola and Nuclear Blast, and touring extensively across Europe. Their music has evolved from radical reinterpretations of traditional folk songs to a more aggressive sound, culminating in their acclaimed 2023 release, Himmelfahrt, which was followed by the 2024 album, Post Mortem.

Starting as a quartet in 1990, Subway to Sally expanded to a septet by 1992, showcasing a unique blend of hard rock dynamics with traditional folk instrumentation. Led by vocalist Eric Fish, the band's early albums like Album 1994 and MCMXCV set the stage for their distinctive sound. As they continued to release albums and tour, their lineup evolved, incorporating new members and experimenting with different musical styles. With the release of Post Mortem in 2024, Subway to Sally proved that they were still going strong, dispelling rumors of a potential breakup and reaffirming their place in the folk metal scene.
