Over time, Steppenwolf shifted towards more serious themes in their music, exploring topics like politics and the environment. The band's career spanned from 1964 to 2018, with notable releases including their debut album "Steppenwolf" in 1968 and the compilation "Reborn to be Wild" in 1977.

Originating in Oshawa, Ontario, as Jack London and the Sparrows, the band evolved into Steppenwolf in 1967 after relocating to California. Throughout their career, Steppenwolf experienced lineup changes and musical experimentation, releasing albums like "At Your Birthday Party" in 1969 and "For Ladies Only" in 1971. Despite disbanding multiple times, John Kay continued to lead various iterations of Steppenwolf until officially retiring the band in 2019.
