In 1979, DJ Michel Gendreau was introduced to a bootleg medley of Beatles songs by Michel Ali, sparking the idea for what would become Starsound. Working with sound engineer Paul Richer, a cleaner version of the medley was created, incorporating recent hits to maintain dancefloor appeal. The success of the initial 12" single led to the release of a full album featuring Beatles classics and other oldies, propelling Starsound to chart-topping success in the UK and US.

Following the medley craze's peak in the early '80s, Starsound released additional albums featuring ABBA and Rolling Stones medleys. By 1982, the trend had waned, with parody versions emerging and session musicians moving on. Starsound's legacy endures as a nostalgic reminder of the medley craze that captivated audiences worldwide in 1981, remaining popular in club settings decades later.
