Biography
Stars of the Lid, an ambient drone duo from Austin, Texas, was formed by guitarists Brian McBride and Adam Wiltzie. They debuted in 1994 with Music for Nitrous Oxide and gained critical acclaim with subsequent releases such as The Ballasted Orchestra in 1997 and Tired Sounds of Stars of the Lid in 2001, both released through Kranky. Wiltzie, also known for his work with Windsor for the Derby and Bedhead, collaborated with painter Jon McCafferty on 1998's Per Aspera Ad Astra.
In 2007, Stars of the Lid released And Their Refinement of the Decline, a double CD following their earlier double CD release, Tired Sounds of Stars of the Lid. Their signature ambient sound and intricate compositions have solidified their place in the genre, making them a standout act in the world of experimental music.
