Starflyer 59

Jason Martin is the creative force behind Starflyer 59, blending influences from British shoegaze, Beatlesque pop, dreamy space rock, and indie bands like the Smiths and My Bloody Valentine. Since 1993, Martin has evolved the band's sound from shoegaze to a more pop-oriented approach, collaborating with musicians like Frank Lenz and Richard Swift. His prolific output includes standout albums like 2001's Leave Here a Stranger and 2019's Young in My Head, which reached the Top 25 of the Christian Albums chart. In 2021, Martin released his 16th full-length album, Vanity.

Growing up in Southern California in a Christian household, Martin discovered a love for music early on, influenced by bands like the Smiths and My Bloody Valentine despite his religious background. Starting with Dancehouse Children and later forming Starflyer 59 in 1993, Martin's solo songwriting and multi-instrumentalist approach defined the band's unique sound. Over the years, he collaborated with various talented musicians and released albums regularly, showcasing his growth as an artist. Despite a brief hiatus from Tooth & Nail Records, Martin returned to release successful albums like 2016's Slow and 2019's Young in My Head, leading up to the release of Vanity in October 2021.
