Squeeze, a prominent new wave band, bridged classic British guitar pop with post-punk influences. Formed in 1974 by songwriters Chris Difford and Glenn Tilbrook, the duo's collaboration was compared to the songwriting prowess of Lennon and McCartney. Despite greater success in their native Britain with hits like "Take Me I'm Yours" and "Up the Junction," Squeeze struggled to gain traction in the U.S., eventually achieving their first Top 40 hit in 1987.
