Biography
Spooky Tooth, a British band blending progressive rock, hard rock, and blues, gained a devoted following in the US and Europe but never achieved major success in their home country. Formed in 1967, the band's prominent dual vocalists and innovative use of two keyboards set them apart. Despite lineup changes and multiple breakups, Spooky Tooth released notable albums like 1969's Spooky Two and 1974's The Mirror before finally disbanding in the mid-1970s. The band briefly reunited in 1999 for the album Cross Purpose and a tour, with various members coming and going over the years.
Beginning as the V.I.P.'s in the early '60s, the band transitioned to Spooky Tooth in 1967 under producer Jimmy Miller's guidance, exploring a diverse sound that resonated with audiences in North America. Collaborations with artists like Joe Cocker and Steve Winwood, as well as a stint as the backing band for Pierre Henry, showcased Spooky Tooth's versatility. Despite lineup shifts and creative challenges, the band continued to evolve before ultimately disbanding in the '70s. Various reunion attempts followed in the late '90s and '00s, with the passing of key members like Mike Harrison and Gary Wright marking the end of the Spooky Tooth era.
