Beginning as an indie artist in 2009, he gained recognition with his 2013 album Anhe Bridge North, featuring hits like "Miss Dong" and "An He Qiao." Despite winning awards and accolades, his career faced setbacks in 2021 when a past drug bust led to a ban on his music by the State Administration of Radio, Film, and Television of China.

Following his independent debut album Snowy Claws in 2010, Song Dongye continued to release music, earning a Golden Melody Award for Best Lyricist in 2018.
