Biography
Sofa Surfers, an Austrian group blending trip-hop, dub, acid jazz, and post-rock, was founded by sound-obsessed Viennese instrumentalists Wolfgang Schlögl, Markus Kienzl, Wolfgang Frisch, and Michael Holzgruber. Their debut single "Sofa Rockers" in 1997 was remixed by Richard Dorfmeister, leading to their debut album Transit on MCA. They expanded into film scoring with Komm, Süsser Tod in 2000, followed by Encounters in 2002, a concept album about xenophobia featuring guest artists like Jeb Loy Nichols and Mark Stewart.
Moving from Klein Records to Monoscope Productions, Sofa Surfers released Blindside in 2010, followed by Superluminal in 2012 and Scrambles, Anthems and Odysseys in 2015. They provided music for the crime comedy Das Ewige Leben in 2015 and celebrated their 20th anniversary in 2017 with the release of 20, a collection of original songs and reworked favorites.
