Biography

Sodom, part of the German thrash metal "Big Four" alongside Kreator, Tankard, and Destruction, has been a key player in the genre since the early 1980s. Known for blending influences from Mercyful Fate, Accept, and Venom, the band has released landmark albums like Persecution Mania and Agent Orange, incorporating elements of death, crossover, and groove metal over the years. Despite lineup changes, bassist/vocalist Tom Angelripper has remained the sole constant member.

Formed in 1981 in Gelsenkirchen, Sodom released their debut EP, In the Sign of Evil, in 1985, which helped kickstart the black metal movement. The band has shifted styles over the years, from black metal to thrash to death metal, while maintaining a strong presence in the Teutonic thrash scene. With a discography spanning over three decades, Sodom continues to deliver intense and influential music, with their most recent album, Genesis XIX, released in 2020.
