Smog

A pioneer of the lo-fi movement, Smog, the alias of singer/songwriter Bill Callahan, delved into themes of alienation and inner turmoil through melancholic and intimate songs in albums like Forgotten Foundation and Julius Caesar. Gradually evolving towards a more polished sound with country and folk influences, Smog transitioned to Bill Callahan's solo work in 2005, becoming one of indie's most celebrated songwriters.

Born in Maryland and raised in England, Callahan began his music career as Smog in the late '80s, releasing raw and introspective albums like Wild Love and Red Apple Falls. Transitioning to his own name in 2007, Callahan continued to experiment with gospel, soul, and pop elements in albums such as Apocalypse and Dream River. His latest work, including Shepherd in a Sheepskin Vest and YTILAER, explores personal connections and emotions in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic.
