SMILE, originally from Getxo, gained national recognition with their upbeat and positive debut album "Painting the Sun One Colour" in 2007, showcasing influences from 70s West Coast music. Their single "Happy People" led them to share stages with artists like Wilco and The Waterboys. Their second album "All Roads Lead to the Shore" (2011) introduced a rockier sound with the addition of a second guitarist and featured collaborations with esteemed musicians like Johnny Kaplan and Neal Casal, gaining attention for their powerful live performances and hit single "Do as I Want."
Following the success of their EP "Seasides" in 2012, SMILE released "Out of Season" (Warner 2013) the next year, blending classic rock elements with neofolk influences. Their 2017 album "Happy Accidents" marked a significant shift towards a more modern and catchy sound under the production of Antonio Garamendi. Their latest release, "Rayo Verde," showcases their versatility by incorporating Spanish lyrics alongside their signature musical style.
