The band's unique sound was characterized by the melodic basslines of Mark Adams and the energetic vocals of drummer-turned-frontman Steve Arrington, leading to hits like "Slide," "Just a Touch of Love," and "Watching You." Despite lineup changes, Slave persisted through the '80s and '90s, releasing multiple albums and charting singles, ultimately leaving a lasting impact on funk music.

Formed in 1975, Slave emerged from Dayton music scenes, with brass players Steve Washington and Floyd Miller as key members. The band's debut album, "Slave" (1977), quickly achieved gold status with hits like "Slide," setting the stage for a successful career with subsequent albums like "Stone Jam" (1980) and "Show Time" (1981). Personnel changes, including the departure of Steve Arrington, marked a new era for Slave, as they continued to produce music into the '90s before ultimately disbanding.
