Biography
Bård Aasen Lødemel, known as Skatebård, transitioned from heavy metal drumming to producing retro-futuristic disco, house, and techno after exploring techno and rave in the '90s. Originally from Ørsta, Norway, he moved to Bergen in 2000, where he immersed himself in the town's club scene and signed with Tellé Records' Tellektro label in 2001. Skatebård's music gained international recognition post his first vinyl-only album "Skateboarding Was a Crime (In 1989)" in 2002, while he also ventured into hip-hop as part of Side Brok, one of Norway's top-selling hip-hop acts in 2004.
Despite his hip-hop success, Skatebård maintained his dance music roots, releasing tracks on labels like Keys of Life, alongside founding his own label, Digitalo Enterprises, which secured a distribution deal with Kompakt in Cologne, Germany. His subsequent releases like "Midnight Magic" (2006), "Cosmos" (2008), and "Vill Stil" (2011) showcased a blend of Italo disco, Euro-disco, and jacking house, receiving critical acclaim in both Norwegian and international music circles. His third album, "CDIII" (2015), displayed a diverse range of influences from Moroder-style disco to Krautrock, Italo-disco, and early Chicago house, solidifying Skatebård's reputation as a versatile and innovative producer.
