Charles Aznavour, a prominent figure in the modern chanson genre, entertained audiences for nearly 75 years. Beginning in the early '50s, he gained recognition for his songwriting and unique vocal style, often performing alongside Edith Piaf. Aznavour's career extended beyond music, as he also acted in numerous films, including Francois Truffaut's Shoot the Piano Player. He continued to perform and record music until his passing in 2018.

Despite being a symbol of French popular culture, Aznavour closely identified with his Armenian heritage. Born Shahnour Varenagh Aznavourian, he overcame vocal challenges to establish himself as a respected composer and singer. Initially facing obstacles in gaining acceptance for his compositions, Aznavour eventually found success with daring love songs and expressive performances. His legacy includes a vast catalog of songs exploring various aspects of love. Aznavour passed away on October 1, 2018, at the age of 94.
