Biography

Shalamar, originating from the US TV show "Soul Train," was formed by Don Cornelius and SOLAR Records chief Dick Griffey, known for their catchy dance music. The "classic" line-up of Howard Hewett, Jody Watley, and Jeffrey Daniel achieved success with four Gold albums in the US before pursuing solo careers. In 1999, Hewett and Daniel reformed Shalamar, later joined by Carolyn Griffey in 2001, continuing to perform and release new music.

Following their successful run with hit albums in the early '80s, the original Shalamar members pursued solo careers, leading to various line-up changes over the years. Despite the shifts, Shalamar continued to tour and release music, with the 2017 track "The Real Thing" marking a successful return for the group, produced by Leon Sylvers, the mastermind behind many of their classic hits.
