Biography

Serani Poji, a Japanese pop group from the Shibuya-kei scene, was led by composer and producer Sasaki Tomoko. After releasing albums like Ochamekan in 2004 and Merry Go Round Jailhouse in 2010, Tomoko paused the project until a viral resurgence in 2023 led to the release of a sped-up version of their hit song "Pipo Pipo."

Formed in 1999, Serani Poji, consisting of Tomoko, Yukihiro Fukutomi, and Yukichi, gained fame with their synth-pop sound influenced by '60s artists like Brian Wilson and Burt Bacharach. As the band evolved, Tomoko took over as the sole leader, releasing albums like One-Room Survival in 2002 and Ochamekan in 2004. Despite a hiatus after Merry Go Round Jailhouse in 2010, Serani Poji gained new popularity in 2023 with the viral success of "Pipo Pipo," leading to the release of a new version by Tomoko.
