Biography
School of Seven Bells modernized dream pop by blending played and programmed elements, drawing inspiration from early masters like My Bloody Valentine and Curve. The band's debut in 2007 led to the release of albums like Alpinisms and Disconnect from Desire, showcasing their unique sound. Despite lineup changes and personal challenges, School of Seven Bells continued to create music until Benjamin Curtis's passing in 2013, with Alejandra Deheza completing the final album SVIIB with producer Justin Meldal-Johnsen, honoring Curtis's legacy.
Benjamin Curtis, Alejandra, and Claudia Deheza formed School of Seven Bells after meeting during a shared bill performance in 2007. Their early singles and albums, released through labels like Ghostly International and Vagrant, captured the band's ethereal and direct approach to dream pop. Tragedy struck in 2013 when Curtis was diagnosed with lymphoma, leading to his passing later that year. Alejandra Deheza carried on the band's legacy, releasing a School of Seven Bells cover of Joey Ramone's "I Got Knocked Down (But I'll Get Up)" in his honor and completing the final album SVIIB in 2016.
