Born in El Monte, California, in 1942, Scatman John rose to fame in the 1990s by fusing jazz scat singing with Euro-dance beats, overcoming a childhood stutter through his love for piano playing. After captivating audiences in Berlin with his jazz performances, he embraced a new style at the suggestion of Manfred Zähringer, leading to the creation of the global hit "Scatman (Ski-Ba-Bop-Ba-Dop-Bop)" in 1994, inspired by his personal stuttering journey. Despite battling lung cancer, Scatman John continued to spread messages of unity through music until his passing in Los Angeles in 1999 at the age of 57, leaving a legacy of musical innovation and unwavering positivity.
