Canadian singer/songwriter Sam Roberts began his musical journey as a violin player before transitioning to guitar and forming a rock band. After a failed attempt in Los Angeles, Roberts returned to Canada to release his debut album, The Inhuman Condition, in 2002, which became the best-selling independent release in Canadian history. Following the success of his debut, Roberts signed with Universal and went on to win multiple Juno Awards for his subsequent albums, including We Were Born in a Flame in 2003 and Chemical City in 2006.
In 2011, Roberts rebranded as Sam Roberts Band for his album Collider, featuring a new lineup. The band continued to evolve their sound, releasing the '80s dance rock-influenced Lo-Fantasy in 2014 and the critically acclaimed Terraform in 2016. Recorded at the Tragically Hip's Bathouse Recording Studios and produced by Roberts and Graham Walsh, Terraform showcased Roberts' musical versatility with tracks like "If You Want It."
