Biography

Cheryl ΓÇ£SaltΓÇ¥ James and Sandra ΓÇ£PepaΓÇ¥ Denton, from Queens, rose to rap royalty as a pioneering duo in the golden age of hip-hop, earning the title of the First Ladies of Hip-Hop. Their influential blend of fun fashion and femininity broke barriers and resonated with audiences, establishing them as relatable figures in the genre. Before their musical partnership, Salt and Pepa grew up in different New York City boroughs but found common ground through their mutual love for hip-hop, eventually forming their iconic group.

Under the guidance of Hurby ΓÇ£Luv BugΓÇ¥ Azor, Salt-N-Pepa, initially known as Super Nature, made waves with their debut single ΓÇ£The Showstopper,ΓÇ¥ which caught the attention of DJ and producer Marley Marl and led to the addition of DJ Spinderella to the group. Spinderella, a Brooklyn native and just 16 years old at the time, quickly became a celebrated figure in hip-hop as the trio solidified their place in music history.
