Soca artist Rupee, originally a member of Barbadian reggae group Coalishun, gained fame with the international hit "Ice Cream" in 1998, transitioning from dancehall to calypso music. He released successful solo albums like Blame It on de Music and Leave a Message in the early 2000s, blending soca with hip-hop and R&B influences. Rupee's popularity led to a record deal with Atlantic Records in 2003, and his debut album, 1 on 1, featuring the hit "Tempted to Touch," was released in late 2004, following the success of fellow Atlantic artist Kevin Lyttle.
