Biography

Running Wild, a German power/speed metal band, has been a mainstay at European metal festivals for over three decades, selling over five million albums. Formed in the mid-'70s, the band shifted to a more melodic and pirate-themed style with their third album, 1987's Under Jolly Roger, leading to a string of standout releases like Port Royal (1988) and Rapid Foray (2016). Despite numerous lineup changes, guitarist Rolf Kasparek has remained the band's constant member.

Originally named Granite Hart before becoming Running Wild in 1979, the band's breakthrough came with the 1987 album Under Jolly Roger, establishing their pirate metal image. Throughout the years, Running Wild continued to explore historical and piratical themes on albums like Pile of Skulls (1992) and Masquerade (1995). Despite announcing a final show in 2011, the band reunited and released new material, including Shadowmaker (2012) and Resilient (2013), culminating in their latest album, 2021's Blood on Blood.
