Roky Erickson

Roky Erickson, born Roger Kynard Erickson in Dallas, Texas in 1947, rose to cult-hero status for his garage-bred psychedelia music, notably with the band 13th Floor Elevators. However, his personal struggles with mental illness and drug abuse often overshadowed his musical influence. Erickson's iconic song "You're Gonna Miss Me" gained attention in 1965, leading to his involvement with the Elevators and subsequent encounters with law enforcement due to drug experimentation.

Despite facing legal troubles and a diagnosis of schizophrenia, Erickson continued to make music with bands like the Aliens, releasing horror film-influenced records. In the '90s, a tribute album and renewed interest in his work brought him back into the public eye, leading to new recordings and live performances. With improved care and support from his brother, Erickson experienced a resurgence in his later years, culminating in new studio albums and reunion performances. Erickson passed away in 2019 at the age of 71, leaving behind a lasting legacy in the music world.
