Richard Galliano, the award-winning French accordionist, has revitalized the early 20th century French ballroom dance form musette, similar to how his mentor Astor Piazzolla transformed the Argentinian tango. Galliano's innovative approach as a jazz musician has expanded the emotional and harmonic range of musette, incorporating modern sensibilities and improvisation. Throughout his career, Galliano has collaborated with a diverse array of musicians and has released several acclaimed albums, with Laurita (1995) and Mare Nostrum (2008) being among his most significant works.

Born in France to Italian parents, Galliano began playing accordion at a young age before delving into jazz and composition, drawing inspiration from artists like Miles Davis and Clifford Brown. After establishing himself in the jazz scene in Paris, Galliano refocused on reviving and updating musette, signing with Dreyfus in 1993 and gaining international recognition for his work.
