Biography
Formed in 1994 by Swedish producers Patrick Edenberg, Janne Ericsson, and Orjan Oberg, Rednex gained fame with their Eurodance-bluegrass hit "Cotton Eye Joe." The original quartet, led by vocalist Mary Joe, enjoyed success in Europe before lineup changes and a shift in musical direction in the 2000s. Despite numerous changes over the years, Rednex continued to release singles and participate in music competitions until 2009, when control of the band reverted to its founders and a new lineup was established, releasing the single "Innit for the Money" in 2016.
Following a series of lineup changes and solo pursuits by members, Rednex evolved their sound and lineup, culminating in the release of the sophomore album "Farmout" in 2000. The group's focus shifted towards live entertainment, resulting in multiple lineup overhauls and the release of a compilation album in 2002. Despite ongoing changes within the group, Rednex continued to release new music and expand their brand globally, including the formation of a Rednex NZ franchise in Oceania. By 2012, Rednex announced a new approach of drawing from associated musicians to create various incarnations and spin-offs, releasing singles like "Racing" and "The End."
