Jamaican singer Protoje gained international recognition with his 2011 debut album, The Seven Year Itch, featuring the hit single "Rasta Love" with Ky-Mani Marley. Evolving his sound to incorporate elements of rap and hip-hop, he continued to rise in the reggae scene with subsequent releases like In Search of Lost Time (2020) and Third Time's the Charm (2022). Protoje, born Oje Ken Ollivierre, was influenced by his musical family background and early hip-hop collaborations before honing a reggae/roots sound with producer Don Corleon.

Protoje's career took off with the success of singles like "Arguments" and "Kingston Be Wise," leading to acclaimed albums such as Ancient Future (2015) and A Matter of Time (2018). Embracing collaborations with artists like Chronixx and exploring social and political themes, his discography culminated in the thematic release of Third Time's the Charm in 2022, marking the completion of a trilogy of introspective albums focused on the concept of time.
