Biography

Originating from Bath, England in 1996, the Propellerheads, comprised of Alex Gifford and Will White, swiftly gained popularity in the UK with their unique blend of party techno music, drawing influences from hip-hop, acid house, jazz-funk, and spy-film soundtracks. Gifford, previously a studio musician for artists like Van Morrison and the Stranglers, teamed up with local drummer White after his stint at Peter Gabriel's Real World Studios. Their breakout EP Dive, released on Wall of Sound, immediately caught attention when its title track was featured in an Adidas commercial. Following successful releases like Take California and Spybreak! EP, the duo achieved further acclaim with their remake of the Bond theme "On Her Majesty's Secret Service" for the compilation Shaken and Stirred: The David Arnold 007 Project. Signing with DreamWorks, Propellerheads made their mark in the US in 1997 with the release of their self-titled CD5, featuring hits like "Bang On!" and subsequently released their well-received debut album Decksandrumsandrockandroll in early 1998.
