Probot

Dave Grohl has long been a vocal fan of heavy metal, from his early days discovering cult bands like Iron Maiden and Motörhead to his projects with Sepultura and Slayer. In the early 2000s, Grohl channeled his metal passion into the all-star project Probot, where he collaborated with iconic metal vocalists like Lemmy and King Diamond.

Despite his success with Nirvana and the Foo Fighters in the '90s, Grohl felt a pull towards his metal roots. Taking matters into his own hands, he crafted a metal album reminiscent of '80s bands, enlisting metal legends to contribute vocals and lyrics. After facing challenges in getting the album released, Grohl found a home for Probot with indie label Southern Lord, releasing the self-titled album in 2003.
