Polvo, a prominent band in the math rock genre, showcased dissonant guitars, intricate layers, odd rhythms, dense textures, and unconventional yet melodic song structures. Their music featured an Eastern influence, incorporating drones and Asian instruments, setting them apart from other experimental guitarists of their time. Formed in 1990 in Chapel Hill, NC, the band's lineup included Ash Bowie, Dave Brylawski, Steve Popson, and Eddie Watkins. They gained local popularity and signed with Merge Records, releasing albums like Cor-Crane Secret in 1992 and Today's Active Lifestyles in 1993 before disbanding in 1997.
After disbanding, Polvo members pursued various musical projects, with Bowie forming Libraness and Brylawski joining Idyll Swords. The band reunited in 2008, performing at the All Tomorrow's Parties festival and releasing In Prism in 2009. They continued their comeback with Siberia in 2013, marking a successful return after a decade-long hiatus.
