Planet Hemp

Planet Hemp, a band advocating for marijuana legalization through a blend of rap, rock, and psychedelia, gained fame for energetic and often tumultuous performances. Formed in 1993 by Marcelo D2 and Skunk, the group quickly expanded to include Rafael, Bacalhau, and Formigão. Despite facing tragedy with Skunk's death in 1994, they persevered with Bê Negão joining as vocalist and signing with Sony Music. Their 1995 album, Usuário, featuring hits like "Mantenha o Respeito" and "Legalize Já," achieved gold status, followed by the platinum-selling Os Cães Ladram Mas a Caravana Não Pára in 1997. Planet Hemp's provocative lyrics and confrontational performances frequently led to controversy and legal issues, cementing their place in the national music scene.
