Biography

Goldie may have been the first superstar of jungle, but Rupert Parkes, under various aliases including Photek, emerged as the genre's most artistic and intelligent producer. Parkes' intricate rhythm programming and dark, atmospheric recordings like "The Hidden Camera" exerted a significant influence on the evolution of drum'n'bass in the late '90s. Growing up listening to a variety of genres, Parkes began producing tracks as a teenager and gained recognition with singles on various labels before signing a five-album deal with Virgin's Science imprint.

Parkes' debut album, "Modus Operandi," released in 1997, was followed by "Form & Function" in 1998, showcasing his unique sound. He continued to release music sporadically over the next decade, including the departure from drum'n'bass with his album "Solaris" in 2000. Moving into film composition and collaborating with artists like Trent Reznor, Parkes remained active in the music scene, exploring different genres and styles through various releases and projects.
