Singer and lyricist Pell, hailing from New Orleans, infuses soul-inspired hip-hop with ambient trip-hop sounds, drawing influence from jazz, indie rock, and artists like Kanye West and A Tribe Called Quest. Following his displacement to Mississippi due to Hurricane Katrina, Pell began producing beats in high school, eventually developing his singing and rapping skills to share his personal narratives. His debut album, Floating While Dreaming, released in 2014, garnered comparisons to Chance the Rapper and Childish Gambino. Pell's subsequent releases include the Limbo EP, produced by Dave Sitek, and the Girasoul EP featuring collaborations with artists like Saba and Vérité.
