French composer and conductor Paul Mauriat, classically trained, transitioned to popular music with major success in 1962 co-writing "Chariot," later a hit as "I Will Follow Him." Best known for the 1968 smash "Love Is Blue," Mauriat's career spanned from classical to pop, touring and recording globally until his death in 2006.
Mauriat's musical journey began at the Paris Conservatoire before he ventured into jazz and popular music, forming his orchestra at 17. Known for his melodic strings and contemporary rhythms, Mauriat rose to fame in the '60s with instrumental albums, achieving international success with "Love Is Blue." Despite a decline in Western popularity, he maintained a devoted following in the Far East until his final performance in 1998, passing away in 2006.
