Over the Rhine

Emerging in the late '80s on the Cincinnati rock scene, Over the Rhine has garnered critical acclaim for their genre-defying music and artful pop sensibilities. Led by the married duo of Karin Bergquist and Linford Detweiler, the band's sound, described as "post-nuclear, pseudo-alternative, folk-tinged art-pop," draws inspiration from literary figures like Dylan Thomas and T.S. Eliot. Signing with I.R.S. and releasing albums such as 1992's Patience and 1994's Eve, Over the Rhine has maintained a dedicated following through lineup changes and collaborations with renowned producers like Joe Henry.

Formed in 1989 by Bergquist and Detweiler, Over the Rhine, named after their Cincinnati neighborhood, quickly gained a loyal following with their independently released albums and distinctive artistic packaging. After a brief stint with I.R.S., the band reclaimed their creative autonomy, releasing albums like Good Dog Bad Dog and The Darkest Night of the Year independently. Over the years, personal and musical evolution marked their journey, culminating in albums like Ohio and Drunkard's Prayer. Collaborations with Joe Henry on Long Surrender and Meet Me at the Edge of the World showcased their enduring artistry and connection to their Midwestern roots.
