Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, born on October 13, 1948, in Lyallpur, Pakistan, was a prominent qawwal known as the "Brightest Star in Qawwali." He began recording in 1973 and released over 50 albums on various labels worldwide between 1973 and 1993. While his traditional work was highly regarded, his later experimental and remix albums received mixed reactions from fans and critics.

Real World Records played a significant role in introducing Khan to a non-Indian audience, with the release of "Mustt Mustt" in 1990. Despite controversy over his modernized approach, Khan's talent in traditional qawwali singing remained unparalleled. In 1994, he took greater control of his career but passed away on August 16, 1997, leaving behind a legacy of posthumous releases.
