Since the late '80s, Chicago's Novembers Doom has evolved from thrashy origins to embrace a sludgy doom metal sound. Over the years, the band has incorporated orchestral elements and gothic folk instrumentation, showcased on albums like The Knowing and The Novella Reservoir. Novembers Doom, originally known as Laceration, signed with Regress Records in 1992 and released their debut album in 1995, setting the stage for their international breakthrough with The Knowing in 2000. The band's sound continued to evolve with albums like To Welcome the Fade and Pale Haunt Departure, leading to The Novella Reservoir in 2007 and subsequent releases that showcased their diverse influences and dynamic style.

In the following years, Novembers Doom continued to push boundaries with releases like Into Night's Requiem Infernal in 2009 and Aphotic in 2011, incorporating extreme elements alongside atmospheric and gothic influences. The band's lineup changes and musical experimentation culminated in the aggressive Bled White in 2014 and the eclectic Hamartia in 2017, showcasing their ever-evolving sound. With their 11th album Nephilim Grove in 2019, Novembers Doom continued to demonstrate their diverse range of sounds and styles, solidifying their position as innovative stalwarts in the metal scene.
