Biography

The New York Dolls, pioneers of punk rock, emerged in late 1971 with a sound influenced by the Rolling Stones, the Stooges, David Bowie, and T. Rex. Despite releasing two albums in the early '70s that achieved cult status but little commercial success, the band's impact on the punk rock movement was significant. The Dolls faced lineup changes, label struggles, and the tragic deaths of members, leading to their eventual disbandment in 1976.

In 2004, surviving members reunited for a successful performance at the Meltdown Festival, sparking a brief resurgence that included new recordings and tours. Tragedy struck again with the passing of original members Arthur Kane and Syl Sylvain in 2004 and 2021, respectively. The legacy of the New York Dolls lives on as trailblazers of punk rock, influencing generations of musicians with their raw, glam-punk sound.
