Mr. Scruff, the musical moniker of Manchester native Andy Carthy, is known for his playful blend of house, disco, jazz, and breaks, often accompanied by his distinctive cartoon artwork. Emerging in the mid-'90s with dubby downtempo EPs, he gained acclaim in the downtempo and nu-jazz scenes with albums like Keep It Unreal (1999) and Trouser Jazz (2002). His eclectic DJ sets and mixed CDs, such as DJ-Kicks (2020), showcase his diverse taste in reggae, soul, and underground hip-hop tracks.

Over the years, Mr. Scruff has evolved his sound, from sample-heavy productions to more electro-funk-leaning works like Friendly Bacteria (2014), which featured guest vocals and a heavier bass-driven sound.
