Biography

In the early '80s, bands like Venom, Mercyful Fate, and Slayer laid the groundwork for death metal, but it was not until the late '80s that Morbid Angel emerged, pushing the genre to its extreme with their music and lyrics. Led by guitarist/songwriter Trey Azagthoth, Morbid Angel maintained their sound through various lineup changes, releasing landmark albums like Altars of Madness and Blessed Are the Sick. The band saw success with a consistent lineup featuring Azagthoth, David Vincent, Richard Brunelle, and Pete Sandoval, before undergoing changes that led to the release of albums like Covenant and Domination.

Despite lineup shifts, Morbid Angel continued to tour and release music over the years. After several changes, including the return of David Vincent, the band released Illud Divinum Insanus in 2011. Following Vincent's departure and rejoining, the band faced challenges with their lineup but went on to release their ninth studio album, Kingdoms Disdained, in December 2017 after resolving passport issues that had previously led to show cancellations.
