Biography

Monolake, a prominent act from the Berlin-based Basic Channel/Chain Reaction label group, was founded by Robert Henke and Gerhard Behles. Behles later left to run Ableton, a music software company they co-founded. Despite changing membership, Monolake's music always combined abstract computer sounds with techno influences. They released several acclaimed albums through Henke's Imbalance Computer Music label, maintaining a high level of quality and detail in their productions.

Formed through a serendipitous studio session, Monolake quickly gained recognition with their early singles and the influential 1997 release Hongkong. Henke continued to lead the project, delivering a series of excellent albums like Interstate, Cinemascope, and Gravity. Behles also remained active, releasing music under Monolake and a variety of aliases, while contributing to the electronic music community through Ableton and mastering work in Berlin.
