Mischa Maisky

Mischa Maisky, a Soviet-born Israeli cellist, is known for his arch-Romantic style rooted in a tradition of intense expressivity. Having studied under legendary Russian cellists Mstislav Rostropovich and Gregor Piatigorsky, Maisky has become an influential teacher in his own right. Born in Riga, Latvia in 1948, Maisky faced challenges before establishing his international career, including imprisonment and emigration to Israel.

Maisky's illustrious career includes collaborations with renowned musicians such as Vladimir Ashkenazy, Martha Argerich, and Gidon Kremer. He has recorded extensively for Deutsche Grammophon, showcasing his mastery of the cello repertoire. Maisky's musical partnerships extend to his daughter, pianist Lily Maisky, with whom he has released acclaimed albums like ¡España! and 20th Century Classics.
