Biography

Emerging from Seattle's music scene in 2001, Minus the Bear blended tight beats, mathy guitar work, and sinewy melodies to create a unique sound drawing from post-punk, new wave, and indie pop influences. With a lineup featuring members from prominent bands like Botch and Sharks Keep Moving, they released six albums, including critically acclaimed works like Planet of Ice and Omni, before disbanding in 2018 following their Fair Enough EP.

Led by guitarist Dave Knudson and vocalist Jake Snider, Minus the Bear gained a following for their polished, cleverly arranged songs that combined finger-tapped guitar riffs with catchy melodies and unexpected time changes. The band's commercial success peaked with 2012's Infinity Overhead, produced by Matt Bayles, before drummer Erin Tate's departure in 2015. Their discography includes notable releases like Menos el Oso and Voids, with their final EP, Fair Enough, marking the end of their 17-year career and concluding with a farewell tour in 2018.
