Michel'le, a unique urban contemporary vocalist in the late '80s and early '90s, was known for her distinctive high-pitched speaking voice and powerful singing style. Often compared to Betty Boop for her voice, her music combined hip-hop influences with R&B, with hits like "No More Lies" showcasing her gritty vocals. With ties to N.W.A. and Ruthless Records, Michel'le's self-titled debut album in 1989, produced by Dr. Dre, achieved success on both urban and pop radio.

Despite her early acclaim, Michel'le's career faced challenges, including East Coast/West Coast rivalry in the early '90s. The Bronx rapper Tim Dog's insults towards her and Dre on the track "Fuck Compton" sparked controversy, reflecting broader tensions in the hip-hop scene. While Michel'le's debut album saw commercial success, her subsequent release in 1998 did not match its impact, marking a decline in her popularity over the years.
