Biography
Formed in 1998 by Emily Haines and Jimmy Shaw, Metric ventured from Toronto to NYC in search of like-minded artists. Joining forces with drummer Joules Scott Key and bassist Joshua Winstead in 2001/2002, the band emerged as a key player in the city's alt-rock scene alongside acts such as LCD Soundsystem and The Strokes, rejecting major label offers to release boundary-pushing albums on their own terms. Across nine studio albums, Metric's dedication to timeless songwriting and independence has solidified their status as an essential and innovative band, proving that success can be achieved without compromising artistic vision or lineup changes. Their latest release, Formentera II, on their label MMI & Thirty Tigers, showcases their genre-defying artistry and marks the culmination of an 18-song cycle that began with 2022's acclaimed Formentera.
