Biography

Mejja, born Major Nemeye Khadija, grew up in Majengo slums in Nyeri county, Kenya. He first gained recognition through a talent search by Celtel, where he emerged as the first runner-up nationally. In 2007, he moved to Nairobi and was mentored by Clemo of Calif Records, ultimately signing with the label. Mejja's music journey began with the group 'Ghetto clan' and later formed the successful trio Kansoul with Kidkora and Madtraxx, releasing hit songs like Nyongwa and Dabo tap. His breakout track, 'Jana kuliendaje,' earned him an award at Kenya's Chaguo la teeniz.

Growing up in Majengo slums, Mejja, also known as 'Okwonkwo,' found early success in music through Celtel's talent search, finishing as a top contestant nationally. After relocating to Nairobi in 2007, he connected with Clemo of Calif Records, leading to a record deal. Transitioning from the 'Ghetto clan,' Mejja joined forces with Kidkora and Madtraxx to form the popular trio Kansoul, known for hits like Nyongwa and Dabo tap.
