Biography
Matador will release Tears of Injustice on February 28, an acoustic companion to Mdou Moctar's album Funeral for Justice, born out of a national crisis. Stranded in the U.S. during Niger's political turmoil, Moctar and his band seized the moment to record the album with a raw, stripped-down sound at Brooklyn's Bunker Studio.
The album captures the profound sorrow and protest of the Tuareg people amidst ongoing strife and colonial exploitation in Niger. Through intimate recording sessions and the addition of traditional Tuareg vocals, Tears of Injustice offers a poignant reflection of a nation in turmoil, contrasting the amplified anger of Funeral for Justice with a more subdued, yet equally powerful, musical expression of grief and resistance.
