Maxine Nightingale

Maxine Nightingale, born in Wembley, England in 1952, began her music career at 16 in local clubs before signing with Pye Records. She later found success with the song "Right Back Where We Started From," reaching the Top Ten in the UK in 1975 and number two on the Hot 100 in the US in 1976. Nightingale released several albums in the late '70s and early '80s, including Lead Me On and Bittersweet, before shifting focus to jazz-oriented performances and sporadic touring.

After her initial success in the '70s, Nightingale continued to perform and record, collaborating with artists such as Jimmy Ruffin for the R&B hit "Turn to Me." She explored different musical avenues, including appearing on Steve Reid's 2001 album Dream Scapes, while maintaining a presence in the music scene through live performances and occasional recordings into the early 2010s.
